The Town of Szolnok is only 95 km from the capital Budapest. It lies in the heart of the Alföld, at the confluence of the Tisza and Zagyva Rivers and boasts a history of almost a thousand years. Szolnok was named for the first steward of the city, Szaunik or Zounok. The town was first officially mentioned under the name Zounok in 1075.
